The EUPL is a young prize, now in its seventh year, which seeks to reward the best emerging European authors. It has already come a long way and is fast asserting its unique identity in the European literary landscape. We are well aware that, to prosper, the EUPL depends on the support and interest of a broad group of people in the book sector – a network that involves authors, publishers, booksellers, translators, critics and journalists, literature promoters and champions and, not least, readers. The success of the EUPL depends on you all. Obviously, the more success and visibility the EUPL-winning authors and their books achieve, the more you too will gain from the prize.

We are eager to exchange ideas with you about the possibility of setting up an international network, the ‚Friends of the EUPL‘, with a view to helping the EUPL further grow and blossom in the years to come.

Best regards,

Jens Nymand-Christensen, Deputy Director-General, DG Education and Culture, European Commission
Nick Yapp, President of the European Writers’ Council
Pierre Dutilleul, President of the Federation of European Publishers
Kyra Dreher, Fabian Paagman and Jean-Luc Treutenaere,
Co-Presidents of the European and International Booksellers Federation
Holger Volland, Vice President Frankfurt Book Fair
